#RogueAgainstTheMachine......what's it all about?


Fpl Rogue (that’s me, my name is Niall, pronounced Neil but I answer to both), Against (sometimes with, also part of but the Marketing team decided Against makes for a better title) TheMachine (that is the ecosystem spawned from the ever-increasing popularity of FPL).

An FPL veteran, Season 19/20 will be my 12th year, a PB of 3,198, and 5 Top 50k finishes but 18/19 was my debut season in the Twitter FPL Community with the #RogueTBC thread. This season instead of documenting my efforts post GW’s I have decided to approach it from pre-GW instead.

Objectives
I have three main objectives for RogueAgainstTheMachine (RATM);
  1. Achieve a reasonably good start
  2. Give back to the FPLCommunity.
  3. Beat that magic number (my FPL PB)

For as long as I can remember I have spent time in the 2-3 weeks prior to the official start getting my team ready for the season start, tinkering and tinkering and tinkering to squeeze every last pound out of that £100m budget only for it all to fall apart in the opening 6 weeks. Panic stations, roll out the Wildcard, and climb, climb, climb but at that stage I am chasing the pack.

I’ve always tried to stick to a plan but this year I am approaching with a different strategy, remove some of the emotional thinking, invest in favourable opening fixtures with a view to keeping that WC intact for as long as possible so for that I need a solid starting plan.

The outline for this season is to develop a rolling plan roughly based around the calendar months, depending on when the GW’s fall and to publish my plan at the start of each period.

For the experts reading/following, all of this should not be groundbreaking but for debutants, mid table achievers looking to improve or veterans looking for some different angles read on and hopefully you will enjoy the journey for the 19/20 season, if not no worries that also fine with me.

One final point before moving on to the strategy/planning, the old EA Sports intro – “It’s in the game” springs to mind. This should be modified slightly for FPL to “It’s only a game”, remember that folks it’s very important.

Armageddon Days

“The calendar on your wall was ticking the days off” Those eagle-eyed music buffs will have noticed the quoted lyrics do not match the song title above and probably wonder at the connection. “This is the Day” is one of my all-time favourite songs which brings back memories of a transition from late teenage years in the hedonistic student life on campus at ULA. “If you can find ways without any obstacles, it probably leads nowhere.” Guerrilla Warfare , Guerrilla Theatre , Guerrilla Marketing all terms pervasive in various walks of life and corners of our globe today. So, can we add a new definition of Guerrilla FPL to that list.
